Driving to El Paredón, Guatemala: Direct Highway Route & Parking
Driving down to El Paredón in your own car or a rental? The drive is 100% direct on paved road via the Puerto San José coastal highway (or via Sipacate). You can easily drive any standard economy car straight to your hotel or private villa door.
🗺️ Exact driving route on Waze or Google Maps
From Guatemala City: Head south via CA-9 (Palín-Escuintla highway) to Escuintla, then continue south on the highway toward Puerto San José. Take the coastal highway heading directly into El Paredón Buena Vista.
From Antigua: Take Highway RN-14 south through the valley to Escuintla, then follow the highway south toward Puerto San José and the direct coastal road into El Paredón.
(Alternate route): You can also take the turnoff through Masagua, La Gomera, and Sipacate crossing the bridge. Both routes lead directly into El Paredón.
🚗 Road conditions: Can a normal rental sedan make it?
Yes! The highway is paved all the way to the village entrance, and streets inside El Paredón are flat packed sand and gravel. Any standard economy sedan, hatchback, or compact SUV handles the drive easily without needing 4x4.
Just cruise slowly (15–20 km/h) inside the village to watch for surfers, pedestrians, and tuk-tuks.
⛽ Gas Stations, 5B ATM & Village Parking
There is a 5B ATM located right inside Super 24 in the village center, allowing 24/7 cash withdrawals in Quetzales with foreign and local Visa and Mastercard cards.
Major gas stations (Shell, Texaco, Puma) with convenience stores are available along the highway and around Escuintla and Puerto San José to fuel up on your way down.
Most villas and hotels on Paredón Travel (like Villas Mónaco, Villas Monterroso, Cabañas La Parcelita, etc.) feature secure private on-site parking so you can leave your car parked and walk everywhere.
